Hi! Hang in there mama… you are doing GREAT & I know know know how frustrated you are.
With my youngest (6mths old) he often refuses the breast & fights, etc (exactly what you are describing) & it’s almost always when he has a reflux flare-up (after vaccines, if I’ve veered off diet, etc). With him (& Evan as well) their reflux & GI system (stool pattern) were definitely connected (ie: if there was/is mucous/blood in stool, then reflux flares up as well & visa versa).
Anyway, the things that stand out to me are:
1) the Prevacid suspension. He’s on a GREAT dose (30mg) but if it’s not made correctly or not staying stable then it’s not doing anything :(. I would double (triple) check that it’s made correctly. If you’re unsure then I would pursue maybe going the Zegerid path. That’s the only thing (Zegerid made w/ Tums QuickPaks) that my boys can tolerate & is effective. I would say that if they’re still seeing inflammation in his esophageus then it’s probably not working as of now.
2) Still having blood in stool. I know you know that this is not okay. So, when you’re on the basic TED does his stool baseline & regulate? If yes, then I would stick w/ that (whatever you’re eating when he baselines) for 1 wk minimum (hard, I know). Then, I’ll help guide you w/ adding foods back in. I’m very proud of you for continuing nursing- it’s such a challenge I know :).
In the meantime, if he’s fighting you on the breast, I would just keep keep trying to be persistent. My ds usually gets very rigid & stiff. I let him do that & just stand up or let him nurse straight down. It’s a challenge (& I feel like I’m wrestling a cat) but eventually he’ll calm down (& sometimes he won’t). Another way I can get him to nurse if he’s doing this is to lay down & side-lye nurse. Doesn’t always work but sometimes.
Hang in there – it will get better.
